From Mushrooms to Self-Healing Walls: The Dawn of Living Architecture
The EU‑funded Fungateria project is engineering living building materials by fusing fungal mycelium (especially Schizophyllum commune) with bacteria, to create sustainable, self‑repairing, carbon‑reducing structures. These engineered living materials aim to grow, adapt, heal, and degrade—reimagining architecture as a living, responsive medium.
