UPenn Gene-Editing Tool Unlocks New Fungal Molecules With Early Anti-Cancer Potential
University of Pennsylvania researchers developed fPE7max, a prime-editing platform for filamentous fungi with efficiency approaching 90%. Activating the regulatory gene laeA revealed 18 complex molecules, including eight previously unknown structures. Three demonstrated preliminary anti-cancer activity in laboratory tests, but substantial preclinical research is still required before potential medical use.
