When Environmental Fungi Become Pathogens
A new study on Trichosporonales shows that fungal pathogens don't always need new virulence genes. Pathogenicity can emerge through adaptive translation, codon optimization, and stress tolerance — traits that evolved in the environment long before any host exposure.
