Newly Discovered Amazon Spider Mimics Deadly Parasitic Fungus in a Rare Evolutionary Strategy
Scientists in Ecuador identified a new spider species, Taczanowskia waska, that mimics the appearance of Gibellula parasitic fungus. The discovery may represent the first documented spider imitating a pathogen that infects spiders. Researchers also found similar mimicry across continents, revealing a broader and previously overlooked evolutionary strategy.
