Scientists Say Fungi May Help Influence Weather Through Ice-Forming Proteins
Scientists identified fungal proteins that trigger ice formation at relatively warm subzero temperatures, suggesting fungi may influence cloud processes and rainfall. The discovery could support safer cloud seeding, improve cryopreservation and frozen food production, and help refine climate models. Researchers also found the responsible fungal gene likely originated from bacteria.
