UK Citizen Scientists Illuminate Rare Pink & Purple Fungi: Waxcaps Discovered in Hundreds of New Sites
Through Plantlife’s “Waxcap Watch” campaign, 850 volunteers located 300 new sites for the pink waxcap (Porpolomopsis calyptriformis) and 18 sites for violet coral (Clavaria zollingeri). These species, indicators of ancient nutrient‑poor grassland, face habitat loss—highlighting urgency in grassland and fungal conservation.
